sustainability management school:
  • business school on sustainability
  • in Switzerland in town of gland\
  • leave the school with a fundamental understanding of sustainability and are able to bring it to life
  • offers both bachelor and masters in sustainability management
  • they want the leaders of the future to be able to find creative solutions
case study/sustainable consumption & production: a greener world
  • planet is deteriorating
  • transport, building, food have to do with environmental impact like waste and co2 emissions.
  • food print can measure the surface area needed to produce the resources we produce in daily life and to absorb the waste generated by these resources.
  • if by 2050 we continue producing and consuming  the way we are producing and consuming we will need twice the earth surface to absorb the waste and co2 produced.
  • even if there's are products to waste less energy or have less waste this has only increased the consumers.
  • people need to make sure that whatever they label needs to be understandable to the consumer that's why European eco label is so important
  • the eco label provides guarantee of sustainability to the environment

sustainability is the capacity  to continue with existence. I think a way in which we could apply sustainable consumption to our lives is recycling.  This can help because this is a way to reduce waste. Also companies can find ways in which they could pollute the air less so the environment is less affected. other things that everybody could do are buying things that are eco friendly, trying to use less plastic bags and more paper or cloth bags.

another way of apllying it is by having a wise use of resources. we should not use so much fule or at least not for everything. sometimes people think fule is the only soution but now a days there are a lot of alternative. we can use solar pannels or wind mills

Growing up Onlie

things that did not surprise me:

  1. there is people how create a totally new person on line
  2. parents don't even notice
  3. there is no rest
  4. nobody reads books they use online summaries
  5. people compete to see who has more online friends.
  6. people fight by  myspace but they cant say it to your face.
  7. people are now much more comfortable with a lot of things.
  8. people have relationships  online and in person they don't even talk.
  9. girls that have a total different personality online
  10. kids teach parents and teachers about technology.
  11. parents realize stoker and that's what they are afraid of.
  12. parents don't realize that kids now what to say and what not to say. for example if they ask you your address you know its something you cant say.
  13. internet is a listener that wont judge you etc.
  14. when parents  tell other parents about some events the kids just feel betrayed and they stop trusting their parents.
  15. there is a lot of cyber bulling that can get really serious.

Things that did surprise me:

  1. before I didn't realize that it starts with little kids that are on things like club penguin
  2. theirs people who even if they are not connected they still have to be in their computer
  3. people have to be connected all the time so they even find ways to avoid there parents prevention ( when parents are trying to track them)
  4. they use turn it in to make sure students don't use online summaries.
  5. teachers realize and they are already tired of it they say its not the learning environment they went in to.
  6. a girl was "famous" online and her parents didn't even now.
  7. people who have a different personality online feel there online personality is much better than the real one.
  8. parents have communities to see what their kids are doing online.
  9. parents ask for password of their kids to see their personal life on things like facebook, myspace...
  10. kids realize that they live two lives and online they are more them selves than on person.
  11. parents don't know about anything that some girls do or have like eating disorders kids create a story to tell them. it surprises me how they don't even notice.
  12. parents don't try to help them instead they humiliate them
  13. some kids are so "addicted" that if they cant use it at home they will go to friends house or cafes etc.
  14. parents teach their kids kids to fight instead of telling them to resolve their problems with words etc.
  15. girls just play with boys online telling them they like them etc. and then they just say they were kidding.
  16. there is a website that asks you about yourself and then tells you the best way to suicide.

how it has changed:

  1. now there is more social media.
  2. myspace is not so used because now there is other pages.
  3. i think now there are more ways in which parents can control what there kids are doing online.
  4. now a lot of classes have technology in them
  5. more parents are aware
  6. more people around the world realize what is going on.
  7. i also think that now kids are more aware of the things that can be on the internet.
  8. teachers now instead of not liking the internet they support it.
  9. if you need to use your computer you now use laptops instead of  a whole computer.
  10. now they are more predators than before.
  11. now parents use the excuse that computers are the cause of all the bad decisions their child make.
  12. also now even though people now tyhe bad things of the internet they can see all the advanteges it has.
  13. parents now also use internet.
  14. msn is not so used anymore
  15. people accept more the internet now and kids are more aware of the conseuqences that it can bring so they are more careful
Questions
  1. im not really as drastic as the people in the video. I dont go so much into face book or other online networks. The only thing that I could kind of relate to was not getting a break from technology specially my phone. for example when i go on vacations i dont really like not being able to use my phone because i like being connected to my friends and knowing whats going on back home. even if this does happen to me I am not naerlly as drastic as other people i dont like not having my phone but i can live with it.
  2. the topic that was the most unlike to my own experience was cyber bulling or sending pictures of myself naked. i would never send a picture of myself naked to anyone no matter what they are saying they can do if i don't do it. i would never do this because i think this is not respecting yourself and your values. also i couldn't relate with cyber bulling because i have never been cyber bullied before. i have heard of stories of people e who are cyber bullied but it has never happened to me personally.
  3. my biggest benefits of the internet is that yopu can be in contact with everyone all the time. in my personal experience this is something very good. i have two sisters and one brother and thanks to the internet i can talk to them everyday. i think that this help when you have loved one who dont live with you because even if they are not in the same country or city you can still be in touch with them and talk to them as if they were eith you.

Gafe

*Google maps
its basically an online map.
in Google maps you can see pictures of places, also terrain or weather of a place. also you can see how it looks from a satellite. the cool thing about this is that you can zoom in you can choose a country or even a city and zoom in until you can see the roads in that city. you could use this in a project about a country because for one it tells the location you can see the climate the cities and you can even look at pictures.  Google maps has something very interesting, at the left there is a picture of a little person you can drag that to any place in the map and it will show you pictures of that place. also in Google maps there is a search tool bar in which you can search any city and Google will take you directly to that city ans show you the map of that city. if you put satellite version you can see the buildings in a city but it different than Google earth because they are not in 3-D and  you cant zoom so much.
 Google earth
its not a map but more like a globe. in my opinion Google earth is  a more advanced app.  you can see 3-D images of terrain and of buildings. you can see parts of  cities and their surrounding  areas at ground level. with Google earth you can also zoom into water. you can see under water terrain of the great lakes and lake Baikal. two things that in my opinion are very cool and useful are: the separate globe of mars and that you can see satellite images of the moon. i think this is very good for school when we are researching about other planets or the moon because it gives us a  realistic view of this places. this two can be very useful for clases like science because with this maps it allows us to view the tarrain and other things of mars and the moon. eith google earth you can meke tours. i think this is super useful for projects and school pecause when you ar researching somehing you can go to google earth and look at where it happened. for example world war two i can make a "tour" of all the places in which they are concentrattion camps or where they are memorials now a dayetc.

Design project day-5

TO DO-day 5
LEARN phase
1. Go to the classroom that has your game. Take a photo of it. Then ask the students what they liked and didn't like about the game. (10 minutes)
2. Back in F19, discuss with your group what your goals were for making it fun...and did you meet those goals. Why or why not?
we did meet our goals because the kids told us it was fun and attractive  also we know it was easy for them not impossible because they where keeping point and having a competition.
3. On your blog, reflect on the following questions
-What was the biggest problem you encountered? How did you solve it?
at the beginning the decoration of the game was difficult. one of our goals was making the game attractive and circus themed at the beginning this was very difficult and we didn't think it was going to work. after we manged to paint faster and achieve the circus theme.
-When did you get your biggest "AH HA" idea? What was it?
our biggest ah ha idea was making the ramp that would return the ball so that people could play again. this was the biggest ah ha idea because it made the game for sophisticated and also easier to play. also the ramp  was really important for the game because it we didn't have it it would've have been difficult for the kids to get the ball back.
-Who in your group resisted new ideas the most and why?
maria was the one who resisted the most. sometimes she didn't want to do it any other ways than hers. also she never wanted to try new things she thought there was only one way to everything.
-What doubts did YOU have about the project and how did you overcome those doubts?
we thought that maybe the kids were going to loos the balls. that was a problem for the game because with out balls you cant play. what we did to avoid this was making three extra balls that way if they lost it they were more balls they could replace it with.
-Who in your group played "devil's advocate" (a person who questions everything, even good ideas) and how did that help the process?
Nicole was the devils advocate because every idea that was throw on the table she questioned it. This was good for the group because she made us question it too and try to make it better to convince her.
-What did you learn about yourself, teamwork, and the design process?
i learned that you need to plan things and make steps before you make something so that it can be well achieved. also i learned that in teamwork there is always going to  be different ideas and that we have to find one that combines all of them.

Design project day-3

TO DO-Day 3CHOOSE phase (15 minutes)1. Review your description of your user from DEFINE phase (day 1) and what makes a game fun for that group.
  1. decorated with a theme
  2. clear instructions
  3. make it possible to win
  4. colorful-attractive
  5. noticeable-pretty-striking
-Do these descriptions match your game...why or why not? (on blog)they do match because we have chosen a theme- circus. also we already know how we will decorated. and our theme makes easy to make it attractive, noticeable, pretty etc. 2. What are the most powerful ideas in your model that you want to keep? (on blog)i think one of the most powerful ideas is that it is attractive and it has a theme. another very strong idea is that its possible to win not super hard but not super difficult.3. What are the things you can leave off to simplify the game? (on blog)we can leave off some of the insensate rule. we can just have the very essential ones especially because its for primary kids. apart from that we wouldn't like to change anything.IMPLEMENT phase (10 minutes)Make a build plan1. What needs to be done to make the model, step by step, who will do each? (on blog)
  1. make a box
  2. make the sign- by lifting one of the side of the box.
  3. make the wholes where the ball will go
  4. make the ramp so that the ball gets back.
  5. make whole where the ball is going to go out of
  6. write rules and instructions

Design Project day 2

TO DO-Day 2
PROTOTYPE phase (60 minutes-1/2, 15 minutes 3/4))1. Look at the drawings from each person in your group and discuss strengths and weaknesses of each (on blog)

Maria-strength:well explained, well labeled. weaknesses: it has a ramp that wont work.
Gabriela (mine) strength- realistic, easy to make. weaknesses: not very well explained, not detail.
Nicole-strengths:its well labeled, it has details. weakness: too difficult to make, not realistic.
-Decide which model has the most strengths (on blog)
the model with most strength was mine because it was the most realistic and easy to make.
-Decide on the details from the other models that you will include (on blog)
we should include more explanation and labels.
-Decide what might need to be added or taken away from the model in #1 (on blog)
decoration, system that makes balls get back so that you can replay.
2. Make a mini model of your idea that works (photo on blog)

3. Share it with the class (along with who your "users" are and why this would be fun for that group.
4. Write down feedback (on blog) that you get from classmates
    -What was good

it was pretty and colorful so it makes it more attractive
it has a good recollection system for the balls
    -What should you consider changing?
the didn't give us any.
